Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival), the Year of the Monkey

Dates & Times: Saturday 30th January, 2pm – 11pm & Sunday 31st January, 10am – 9pm.
Venue: Plaza Parques Nacionales (Av. Figueroa Alcorta, between Sucre & Echeverria).

Martial arts, oriental dancing, tea ceremonies and caligraphy exhibitions, the porteño Chinese New Year celebrations promise an unparalleled display of Chinese culture and gastronomy in the city of Buenos Aires.

Highlights: the traditional Dragon Dances, the Night Festival and something for Valentine’s Day lovers too.

A bit of background

Chinese New Year dates are based on the lunisolar calendar traditionally used in China. In China, festivities commence on the first day of the lunar month and usually last around 23 days. It is a period of full of celebration, food and fireworks for Chinese communities in China and across the world. Year 4714, the year of the monkey, starts on 8 February 2016 and lasts until 27 January 2017.
